Manchester United bracing themselves for Real Madrid raid

Manchester United are once again bracing themselves for interest in David de Gea from European rivals Real Madrid, claims The Sun.

De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to Madrid all summer despite the fact it was claimed that Zinedine Zidane had paused the club's fascination with the United star shortly after the end of last season.

Keylor Navas’ strong end to last season convinced the Madrid boss that De Gea was not needed this summer, but United have been weary all summer that the European champions could reignite their interest at any stage.

Now, despite the fact there is nothing in Spain to back this up, Madrid are keen on the 26-year-old once again as Madrid look to land one big name signing before the transfer window shuts.

The Spanish champions were hopeful of landing Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe but appear resigned to the fact the teenager will join Paris Saint-Germain if he does leave Leonardo Jardim’s side this summer.

Having seemingly missed out on the France international, Zidane’s side have turned their attention back to De Gea and United are waiting to receive a bid that would make their No.1 the most expensive goalkeeper of all-time.

De Gea is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers on the planet and in the UEFA Super Cup clash between United and Madrid he was pinpointed as the only player from the Red Devils that would improve Zidane’s side.

Since August 2014, De Gea has kept at least three more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League (40).
