Manchester United close in on Real Madrid defender

Manchester United's move for Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon has gathered pace, claims Marca.

Reguilon has been identified as a top transfer target by United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in search of competition for Luke Shaw.

Madrid have transfer listed Reguilon despite his fine campaign on loan at Sevilla and are asking for just €25m (£23.1m) for his signature.

Chelsea considered Reguilon as a cheaper alternative to Ben Chilwell before signing the England international from Leicester for £50m.

Despite there still being an issue over Madrid's preference for a buy-back clause included in Reguilon's departure, United are edging closer to signing the Spain international.

Reguilon's arrival would allow Brandon Williams to swap over to right-back as Aaron Wan-Bissaka's No.2 and pave the way for Diogo Dalot to end his Old Trafford misery and leave.

Reguilon finished last term as the left-back in the WhoScored Team of the Season in LaLiga and also registered an assist in Sevilla's Europa League semi-final win over United.
