Everton sign Norwich centre-back Ben Godfrey

Everton have announced the arrival of Norwich centre-back Ben Godfrey on a five-year deal running until the summer of 2025.

The Toffees have taken their summer spending over the £50m mark after landing Godfrey in a deal worth more than £20m.

Godfrey has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League all summer after Norwich were relegated to the Championship last season.

After failing to prise Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea and opting against Barcelona's Jean-Clair Todibo, Everton have moved for Godfrey.

Carlo Ancelotti has been desperate to sign a new centre-back all season to ease Everton's injury woes at the back.

With both Mason Holgate and Jarrad Branthwaite sidelined for the foreseeable future, Everton are down to just two recognised centre-backs available.

Godfrey missed Norwich's 1-0 home defeat to Derby at the weekend to complete a move for Everton but had started their previous three league matches this season.

Of players that started at least 30 Premier League matches last season, the 22-year-old had the lowest WhoScored rating of any outfielder (6.45).
