Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has announced his international retirement after Slovenia failed to make the 2016 European Championships.
Slovenia were knocked out by Ukraine after only managing a 1-1 draw in the return leg of their play-off match and Handanovic drew close on his international career exactly 11 years to the day of his debut.
The 31-year-old, who has reportedly agreed to extend his contract with Inter, finishes as the third highest capped player in Slovenia’s history (79 caps).
The veteran shot-stopper has built a reputation for his penalty saving heroics and has saved at least two more penalties than any other goalkeeper over the last four years in Serie A (7), furthering his statistically calculated strength of ‘penalty saving’.
