Frank de Boer is still fighting to keep his job at Inter despite beating Southampton in the Europa League on Thursday, according to Tuttosport, via Football Italia.
Inter have struggled for consistency since De Boer was made Roberto Mancini’s replacement and would have reportedly been sacked had Southampton beaten them in midweek.
Despite winning 1-0 courtesy of an Antonio Candreva winner, the Inter board were still left unimpressed with the manner of the win meaning De Boer still has a long way to go to convince he is the right man for the job.
It was another summer of huge investment at Inter and they cannot afford not to be competing for the Champions League places, which could ultimately prove De Boer’s undoing. However, a lack of viable replacements could give the former Ajax head coach some breathing space.
Former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello has already ruled himself out of the running, while Rudi Garcia was appointed Marseille manager earlier this week and Valencia signed up Cesare Prandelli earlier this month.
Inter have won won four of 11 matches in all competitions this season, although one of those came against Juventus back in September. They have only won one of their last five, in which three have been defeats. De Boer will be hoping for better luck when Inter travel to Atalanta on Sunday, but they have only managed one win in their last six trips there.
