Mourinho makes decision on Martial’s Manchester United future
Jose Mourinho is willing to sell Anthony Martial this summer but only for the right place and to the right club, claims The Daily Mail.
Martial has turned down a new contract from Manchester United and has entered the final year of his existing terms, although Mourinho’s side are expected to trigger their right to a further 12 months.
The France international has grown disillusioned with life under Mourinho and his agent confirmed at the end of last season that his client wants to leave United.
Martial has not impressed during United’s first two pre-season friendlies but Mourinho warned the 22-year-old in the aftermath of their 0-0 draw with San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday that he will not be allowed to dictate his future.
United still believe they are in the driving seat and will only consider selling Martial if they receive offers in the region of £80m.
Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have all been credited with an interest in the versatile United forward but it remains to be seen whether any side would be willing to match United’s terms.
United paid an initial £36m to sign Martial from Monaco in 2015, although that fee could end up rising to as much as £58m, and the Red Devils want to make a serious return on his services.
No player scored or assisted more goals as a substitute in the Premier League last season than Martial (6).
