Pep Guardiola has cast doubt over his long-term future at Manchester City are revealing it is only a matter of time before he moves into international management.
The 47-year-old took over as City manager in 2016 and signed a new two-year contract extension at the end of last season to take him through until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
Guardiola has never managed more than four years at one club but his new deal means he will be in charge of City for six seasons if he sees it through.
The Spaniard has been a revelation in the Premier League and City fans understandably want the former Barcelona head coach to stick around much longer than his existing terms.
However, Guardiola has revealed his ambitions to move into international coaching and believes that day is not too far away.
“I would like to be an international manager in a national team,” The Daily Telegraph quote Guardiola as saying during a talk he gave at Liverpool University.
“Sooner or later, it will happen because every three days I would like to be involved, but a little bit more calm, play more golf.. now I do not have time to play.
“So yes, sooner or later it is going to happen, if I have a chance and some international team wants to come ‘knock, knock’ [at my door]. We will see.”
Guardiola led City to the Premier League title during his second season in charge and the Blues broke every record imaginable in the process.
City are currently two points clear of Liverpool at the top of the league and could become the first side to defend the Premier League title since Manchester United won it three times in a row between 2006 and 2009.
