Why Tottenham turned down Chelsea striker Batshuayi

Tottenham turned down the chance to sign Michy Batshuayi on loan for the remainder of the season due to Chelsea’s financial demands, reports The Daily Mirror

Batshuayi is currently on loan at Valencia but the Spanish side want Chelsea to find a new home for the Belgium international for the second half of the campaign.

Chelsea have agreed loan deals in principle with West Ham and Real Betis but the former are believed to have pulled out of talks with their Premier League rivals.

Batshuayi’s representatives worked on a deal with Tottenham but Mauricio Pochettino’s side feel a transfer is a non-starter due to the fact Chelsea are demanding an £8m loan fee.

Chelsea reportedly agreed a £2m loan fee with West Ham and Betis and Tottenham have no interest paying over the odds for a striker they were not even looking at before deadline day.

The 25-year-old has endured a miserable season but his loan spell at Valencia is set to end even though the next step remains unclear. Batshuayi has only scored one goal from 17 shots in 15 league appearances for the Spanish side.
