Manchester City still want Leicester star Mahrez

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola intends to reignite his interest in Leicester star Riyad Mahrez this summer, reports The Sun.

Guardiola is already looking ahead of next season after wrapping up the Premier League title last weekend and wants to make three big signings.

City failed in their attempts to prise Mahrez away from Leicester on the final day of the January transfer window after the Foxes demanded £90m.

Guardiola was reportedly willing to sanction a deal worth £65m plus a player before pulling the plug on a deal, much to Leicester’s anger.

After failing to report for training in the immediate aftermath of collapsed transfer, Mahrez has since managed to return near his best.

The Algeria international, however, could still realise his ambition of moving to an elite club as City are posed to renew their interest this summer.

City have no intention of matching Leicester’s £90m price tag and will instead look to restart talks around the £65m move.

Mahrez has already handed in two transfer requests since the end of last season and would jump at the chance to finally join one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

The Leicester star has played a direct hand in 18 goals in 32 Premier League appearances (10 goals, eight assists) this season, nine more than he managed in 36 league games last term.
