Villa eye Adebayor as Benteke replacement

Aston Villa are eyeing up a move for Emmanuel Adebayor as a Christian Benteke replacement, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Benteke is tipped to move to Liverpool this summer, though the Reds and Villa are yet to agree a fee for the highly-rated Belgium.

The deal, though, is expected to go through sooner rather than later, and reports now suggest that the Villans will look to secure the services of Adebayor to replace Benteke.

Adebayor and Villa boss Tim Sherwood worked well together during the latter's short stint as Spurs boss, with the Togo striker keen to link up with Sherwood once more.

11 of the 35 league goals Adebayor scored in his 4 seasons at Spurs came under Sherwood, though Spurs may have to subsidise part of the player's hefty wages for any move to be completed.

The 31-year-old is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane, with current Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino keen to cash in on Adebayor this summer.
