Palace move for £6.5m Championship defender

Crystal Palace have begun talks with Queens Park Rangers for central defender Steven Caulker, reports The Guardian.

Palace manager Alan Pardew called on the club to invest heavily in the summer to arrest their alarming slump in form this year and the club’s hierarchy have seemingly already acted.

Caulker, 24, spent the second half of the season on loan at Liverpool but failed to have any impact under Jurgen Klopp and has now returned to Championship side QPR following the culmination of his loan agreement.

However, the QPR defender could be set for an immediate return to the English top-flight with Palace interested in making him their first signing of the summer in a £6.5m deal.

Caulker hasn’t made a first-team appearance since playing 90 minutes against West Ham at the end of January.
