Manchester City have been given a boost ahead of their clash with Tottenham on Saturday after declaring new signing Gabriel Jesus free to make his debut.
Pep Guardiola’s side paid £27m to sign the Brazil international from Palmeiras last summer but Jesus only joined the club this month after leading his former club to the Brasileirao title.
City had hoped to have Jesus free to face Everton last weekend but did his registration was not completed in time, although that is not the case this time around as Guardiola looks to get the Citizens back on track.
Guardiola’s side are now out of the top four after suffering their fourth loss in eight matches and Jesus, who is expected to start, will still give City a boost as they look to tame a rampant Spurs outfit.
“I’ve watched [the Premier League] and I notice it’s a very hard, intense style of play. I hope to adapt as quickly as possible,” Jesus told the club’s official website. “I’m going to try and take it all in and adapt.
“I know it isn’t going to be easy, but it only depends on me to put in the effort to adapt. I can’t feel scared, being given an opportunity like this to change my life.
“There are more challenges and opportunities to change the lives of my family members, to give them opportunities, so I can’t be scared of anything.”
Only two players finished the last Brasileirao campaign with a higher rating than Jesus (7.43), who scored or assisted 17 goals in 27 league appearances. Not only that, but only two players picked up more yellow cards than the 19-year-old.
