Barton’s move to east London hammered

Joey Barton’s proposed move to West Ham United has collapsed following protests from the club’s supporters, according to The Daily Mirror.

Slaven Bilic’s side were reportedly close to snapping up the 32-year-old on a free transfer, but have pulled out of the deal after receiving complaints from their fan base.

According to the Daily Mirror, a West Ham insider said on Tuesday night: “We’ve pulled out in the last hour because of the strength of feelings from the fans.

“He’s a good player and based on football decisions we’d have signed him, but in the interests of team spirit we haven’t.”

Barton has been a free agent since being released by Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season and has found it difficult to find a new club with his reputation seemingly playing a part in his struggle. In fact, Barton has picked up at least two more cards than any other player in the Premier League since the start of the year (10).
