Manchester United striker closing in on new five-year deal

Anthony Martial is set to agree terms on a new long-term contract at Manchester United, Sky Sports understands.

The Frenchman, who struggled for regular playing time under former boss Jose Mourinho, is still very much seen as an important player in the future of the club and has been offered a new five-year deal.

The forward rejected a new contract offer back in October but appears to have reached an agreement following Mourinho’s departure, with the club recently activating a clause in his contract that will keep him at the club until 2020.

The terms of the new contract would see him sign for a further four years and comes as a reward for his impressive form this season, netting nine goals in all competitions.

The 23-year-old has started four of the five league games under interim coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, scoring in the Norwegian’s first match in charge at Cardiff.

Since becoming the world’s most expensive teenager back in 2015, Martial has scored a modest 32 league goals having been in and out of the side since his debut season at Old Trafford, though he is well on course to beat his best tally of 11 recorded in 2015/16.
