AC Milan rule out move for Chelsea man

AC Milan director of football Massimiliano Mirabelli insists the club are not interested in sacking Vincenzo Montella and replacing him with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

The Serie A giants spent more than £150m on new players of the summer but have underwhelmed under Vincenzo Montella so far this season and there are suggestions Milan will look to replace the 43-year-old.

Conte has been heavily linked with a return to Italy in the last 12 months after failing to completely settle in England and his long-term future at Chelsea remains up in the air.

The Italian signed a new Chelsea deal in July but only agreed a wage hike and did not add any more years to his previous deal, which is due to expire in 2019.

However, Mirabelli has dismissed suggestions Milan are hoping to prise Conte away from Stamford Bridge.

“We already have a manager and we are not thinking of Conte nor about other managers,” the London Evening Standard quote Mirabelli as saying.

Milan have lost their last two matches and face city rivals Inter on Sunday, who they were expected to leapfrog in the league this season after overshadowing them in the summer transfer window.

Montella was appointed Milan manager in July 2016 and has won 55.5% of his matches in charge since then.
