Real Madrid announce arrival of Manchester United target

Real Madrid have announced they agreed to sign highly rated Porto defender Eder Militao at the end of the season.

Militao has emerged as one of the most sought after young defenders in Europe this season and was firmly on Manchester United’s radar.

The 21-year-old has been involved in a transfer tug-of-war between the two clubs for most of the season but Madrid have won the race for his signature on a six-year deal until the summer of 2025.

Militao will kickstart a summer of sweeping change at Madrid following the return of Zinedine Zidane as manager at the start of the week.

Zidane has been promised funds will be available to spend at the end of the season and Los Blancos have already got their recruitment drive underway.

Madrid have reportedly agreed to match Militao's €50m release clause now, as his buy-out clause will jump to €75m after 15 July.

Militao has gained a better WhoScored rating (7.57) than any other defender in Liga NOS this season.
