Liverpool have announced they have signed Schalke defender Joel Matip on a free transfer.
Jurgen Klopp’s side reached an agreement to sign the central defender in February after he had entered the final six months of his deal with Schalke.
The 24-year-old has finally been able to make his switch to Liverpool official after the transfer window opened at midnight on Thursday.
In the last two Bundesliga campaigns Matip has made more interceptions than any other Schalke player (145).
