Watford have turned down an approach from Everton to speak with manager Marco Silva, reports The Independent.
Everton are still looking to appoint a new full-time manager after sacking Ronald Koeman at the end of October.
David Unsworth has been in interim charge for Everton’s last four matches but has failed to impress during his audition for the permanent role.
Former England manager Sam Allardyce and Burnley boss Sean Dyche have been linked with the hot seat at Goodison Park, but the Merseysiders have made their first move for Silva.
The 40-year-old has made a thoroughly impressive start to life at Watford after leaving Hull to take over at Vicarage Road over the summer and the Portuguese looks destined for the top.
However, the Hornets have no intention of losing Silva and have rejected Everton’s desire to speak with their young manager about taking over on Merseyside.
Ironically, Everton’s only victory in their last nine matches came against Watford before the international break.
Nonetheless, the Hornets have made an impressive start to the season and are only four points adrift of Liverpool, who currently occupy fifth.
