Real Madrid end pursuit of Manchester United star

Manchester United have received a huge boost in their attempts to retain the services of David de Gea with news Real Madrid are no longer interested in signing the goalkeeper, claims MARCA.

Zinedine Zidane’s side have been heavily linked with a second move for De Gea in the last few months and the European Champions were expected to step up their pursuit of the 26-year-old following their Champions League final last weekend.

There have been mixed messages that have come out of Old Trafford in regards to whether Jose Mourinho wants to fight to keep the Spain international but his decision may have been made for him as Madrid have reportedly killed their interest.

In an unexpected change of heart at the club, Zidane will continue with Keylor Navas as his No.1 for next season and Madrid want to kill the story quickly in order to avoid another drawn out saga for the second time in the last three years.

De Gea was on the verge of joining Madrid in the summer of 2015 only for the deal to collapse in incredible circumstances on deadline day before the 26-year-old extended his contract at United weeks later.

There have been reports suggesting Mourinho would look to use De Gea as bait in a deal to sign Alvaro Morata but Madrid have already told the Premier League giants to fork out £78m for the striker.

In the last four Premier League campaigns De Gea has kept the most clean sheets in the division (51).
