Sunderland have announced Lamine Kone has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal keeping him at the club until 2021.
Kone, 24, was heavily linked with a move to Everton during the summer and the central defender was reportedly looking to force through a move.
Sunderland only signed Kone from Ligue 1 side Lorient in January and his performances were key in keeping them in the Premier League last season.
“Lamine is an important player for this club and I made that clear to him from the outset,” David Moyes told Sunderland’s official website.
“He has only been playing in the Premier League since January, but in that time we have already seen what he is capable of. The challenge for Lamine now is to build on what has been a very positive introduction to English football and to continue to improve and grow as player.”
Since joining Sunderland Kone has completed at least 57 more clearances than any other teammate in the Premier League (156).
