Chelsea boss Sarri targets blockbuster move for Serie A striker

New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri wants to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus and is willing to use Alvaro Morata as bait to get a deal over the line, claims The Daily Mail.

Chelsea finally confirmed Sarri’s appointment as Antonio Conte’s replacement on Saturday morning and swiftly followed that up by confirming Jorginho’s arrival from Napoli.

The Italian wants to address Chelsea’s forward positions following their woes last season and Sarri is ready to cast off Morata after just one season at the club in order to reunite with Higuain.

Higuain earned a high profile move to Juventus off the back of some devastating goalscoring form at Napoli under Sarri but now the Old Lady are open to offers for the Argentina international.

Juventus shattered their club transfer record to land Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid last week and the Serie A champions are keen to recoup some of that investment through player sales.

Max Allegri’s side value Higuain in excess of £50m but Chelsea are hoping to include Morata in a deal to reduce the fee.

Morata endured a turbulent first season at Chelsea and ended up missing out on a place in Spain’s squad for the 2018 World Cup.

The 25-year-old has previously reiterated the fact Juventus is the only club he has properly settled at during his career and would certainly entertain a return to Turin.

In the last four Serie A campaigns, Higuain has scored at least three more goals than any other player (94).
