Wolfsburg make first summer signing

Wolfsburg have confirmed Daniel Didavi will sign a five-year deal with the club when his contract expires with Stuttgart in June.

Didavi, 26, has developed into one of Stuttgart’s most important players this season after putting serious injuries in recent years behind him.

However, the former Germany Under-21 international has rejected Stuttgart’s attempt to extend his stay with the club and announced he would join Wolfsburg in the summer at a press conference on Tuesday.

“It was a very difficult decision for me,” Didavi is quoted as saying by DW Sports. “I was uncomfortable with the situation."

“I’m happy that we have communicated my decision. But the season is not yet done. I want to show in the next few games the ‘Dida’ that people know."

The attacking midfielder has scored at least four more goals than any other Stuttgart player in the Bundesliga this season (10) and has developed a reputation for shooting from distance.

In fact, only Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu (53) has attempted more shots from outside the box than Didavi in the German top-flight this season (45).
