Real Madrid star wants fresh contract

Isco says he is relaxed about his contract situation but wants to pledge his long-term future to Real Madrid.

The Spain international has been one of the best performers in Europe this year but has entered the final 12 months of current deal and no agreement is currently in place for a renewal.

Isco struggled to establish himself as a first team regular during the first three years of his time at Madrid, but has exploded into form since the turn of the year and is now indispensible to Zinedine Zidane.

It caps a remarkable turnaround for the 25-year-old, who was free to leave Madrid 12 months ago and heavily linked with a return to Malaga.

Isco, who, as it stands, will be free to talk to foreign sides about a pre-contract agreement in January, is now looking to secure a new long-term deal with the reigning European champions.

“I have always thought about being a success at Madrid, even in the moments when I was getting less playing time,” ESPN quotes Isco as saying on international duty.

“I knew I should not give in, and here I am today. I feel important at the moment and very comfortable, and hope to keep going like this for many years for both Madrid and Spain.”

In 2017 only Lionel Messi (17) and Jonathan Viera (7) have completed more accurate through balls than Isco (6) in La Liga.
