Montpellier sign third highest WhoScored rated player in Europe

Montpellier have confirmed the arrival of Nimes midfield star Teji Savanier on a long-term deal.

Savanier was a revelation for Nimes last season and one of the surprise packages across Europe’s top five leagues.

Nimes have reluctantly sold the 27-year-old to their arch-rivals in a deal worth in the region of €10m (£9m).

Galatasaray were also interested in signing the French midfielder but Savanier has opted to make the short trip back to the city of his birth.

Savanier remarkably finished last season as the third highest WhoScored rated player in Europe’s top five leagues (7.89).

The Frenchman played a direct hand in 20 goals in 32 league appearances for Nimes last season, with only Eden Hazard (15) registering more assists than Savanier (14) in Europe’s major leagues.

Savanier won the WhoScored Man of the Match eight times in Ligue 1 and created more clear-cut goalscoring chances (18) than any other player in the division.
