Spurs midfielder earns first England call-up

Spurs versatile midfielder Eric Dier has seen his fine start to the season rewarded with his first senior England call-up for upcoming friendlies against Spain and France.

Dier, 21, has been integral to Spurs’ fine to start to the season that has seen them remain unbeaten in the league since losing to Manchester United on the opening day of the season.

The youngster has been joined by Tottenham teammate Dele Alli in Roy Hodgson’s squad for their upcoming friendlies.

Dier’s inclusion comes as no surprise following his fine start to the campaign. In fact, of English players to have played at six league games this season, only Simon Francis (3.5) averages more tackles per game than Dier (3.4).

Furthermore, only Jamie Vardy (7.87) and Ross Barkley (7.55) have garnered a higher WhoScored rating than Dier (7.36) using the same parameters.
