Argentina international set for lucrative payday in Serie A

Napoli are set to offer Gonzalo Higuain improved terms in a bid to fend off any interest for the former Real Madrid striker, reports Calciomercato.

Higuain, 27, was linked with a move to Arsenal over the summer but the Premier League club refused to meet his €100m (£73.8m) release clause.

The Argentina international’s current €5.5m (£4.06m) contract still has three years to run, but Napoli are set to offer improved terms that could see the striker earn in excess €6m (£4.43m) annually.

Higuain has started the season in impressive fashion having netted five goals in the opening six league games of the Serie A campaign. In fact, only Eder (6) has managed to score more goals in this time in Italy’s top-flight.
