Crystal Palace star sidelined for a month

Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer has been served an early blow with news Wilfried Zaha will miss the next four weeks through injury, claims The Guardian.

Zaha injured his knee during Palace’s 3-0 defeat to newly promoted Huddersfield on Saturday and was pictured leaving Selhurst Park in a leg brace.

De Boer was hopeful that Zaha would recover in time to feature against Liverpool on Sunday but initial tests have revealed the Ivory Coast international has suffered minor knee damage.

It means that Zaha will not only miss this weekend’s trip to Anfield, but now isn’t expected to return to first-team action until mid-September, which also rules him out of matches against Ipswich, Swansea, Burnley and Southampton.

Zaha should recover in time for a daunting run of fixtures for the Eagles that starts with a trip to Manchester City on September 23. Palace then face Zaha’s former club Manchester United seven days later before returning to London to host Chelsea after the first international break of the season.

The 24-year-old has completed more dribbles than any other Premier League player since the start of last season (148).
