Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has revealed he sees his immediate future at the Bernabeu.
The France international, who missed Euro 2016 through injury, has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, with the Premier League side keen on bolstering their defence.
However, their hopes of signing Varane appear to have been quashed, with the 23-year-old looking to stay in the Spanish capital.
“I want to stay here this year, I feel loved by the fans who want the best for me, and the best is yet to come,” the defender is quoted as saying on TEAMtalk via Marca.
“I hope to be allowed to start afresh- I’d like to push on, to continue improving.
“After being at Real for five years, I want to make the next step.”
Injuries limited Varane to just 23 league starts last season.
