Arsene Wenger says Arsenal are yet to offer Per Mertesacker a new contract.
Mertesacker, 31, is out of action until the New Year after suffering a serious knee injury in pre-season and has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal.
Arsenal are yet to offer the former Germany international a new deal and his long-term future is up in the air after the £35m arrival of Shkodran Mustafi this summer.
“At the moment we have not dealt yet with that [contract] situation,” the London Evening Standard quote Wenger as saying.
“We are not especially [waiting for him to be fit] but of course he has to come back. We will see together at some stage when he will be back in full training.
Since joining Arsenal in 2011 the Gunners have actually fared better with Mertesacker (57.4%) in the starting XI compared to matches without him (54.3%).
