Southampton interested in Manchester City goalkeeper

Manchester City are prepared to sell Angus Gunn and Southampton are interested in signing the young goalkeeper, claims The Daily Mail.

The England Under-21 international impressed during a loan spell at Norwich last season but is now ready to make the step up and play regular Premier League football.

Manchester City made Ederson one of the most expensive goalkeepers of all-time 12 months ago and first-team opportunities at the Etihad will be at a premium for Gunn next season.

Gunn’s impressive form in the Championship last season even led to a senior England call-up in November, but the 22-year-old was not used by Gareth Southgate.

Southampton interested in Manchester City goalkeeper

Southampton manager Mark Hughes wants to settle on a first choice goalkeeper next season after Alex McCarthy leapfrogged Fraser Forster in the pecking order last term.

McCarthy signed a new contract with Southampton earlier this week but Southampton are still keen on striking a deal for £15m-rated Gunn.

Only Ipswich goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski (153) made more saves than Gunn (139) in the Championship last season.
