Pep Guardiola wants to finish career at Barcelona

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed he aims to finish his coaching career back where it all started at Barcelona.

The 47-year-old is regarded as one of the best managers of all-time after winning everything on offer during a breathtaking four-year spell in charge of the Barcelona first-team.

Guardiola has enjoyed continued success since leaving his boyhood club, dominating in Germany with Bayern Munich and doing the same with City now.

The Spaniard’s current City deal is not due to expire until 2021 after extending his stay at the end of last season, but he has now revealed a desire to return to his roots in the future.

However, instead of a second stint in charge of the Barcelona first-team, Guardiola actually wants to manage their B side where he started his coaching career.

“I will finish again where I started,” he told Spanish TV, via The Daily Mirror. “My last steps will be in the youth team - I hope at Barca. I believe it’s - to start, it’s the best.

“My time there as a [first-team] coach is finished because I’m not the same as I was then, nor is the way they see me the same.

“I had the time of my life there, when the world was our oyster, with some incredible players. I was a fantastic age in which I was taking on the world. We took it on with some incredible players, a young president.

“It was a generation of brutal players and the best player in the world [Lionel Messi]. The stars aligned.”

After the first trophyless season of his entire career during his first year at City, Guardiola’s side went on to achieve a record-breaking title-winning campaign last term.

City broke the record for most Premier League wins (32), the biggest points haul (100), most goals scored (106), most away wins (16), most consecutive league wins (18), most away points earned (50) and the biggest goal difference (+79).
