Chelsea target Icardi still a long way of new Inter deal, claims agent

Mauro Icardi’s wife and agent, Wanda, has revealed two of the biggest clubs in Spain are interested in the Inter captain and he is still a long way of renewing his current deal at San Siro.

The Argentina international has been heavily linked with a move away from Inter in recent years after establishing himself as one of the best goalscorers in Italy.

Reports emerged earlier this week suggesting Chelsea are keen on the 25-year-old, while Wanda insists, without naming clubs, that two of the biggest teams in Spain are also keen on his services.

“Icardi’s renewal with Inter is a very long way off as things stand today,” she told Spanish outlet AS. “There are very important clubs that are interested in signing Mauro and we are very far from reaching an agreement [with Inter].

“The figures that are being talked about in Italy about his contract renewal are not accurate. So far, we have not received a satisfactory offer from Inter. We are not ruling out reaching an agreement at some stage, but at the moment we are a long way off from that.

“It’s not logical for Mauro to renew on the same salary that he receives now. We believe that Mauro is at a superior level. We have a very good relationship with the two biggest clubs in Spain who, are very interested in Mauro, as well as one in France and one in England.”

Icardi’s current Inter deal is not due to expire until 2021 but Wanda’s latest comments will enthuse any side monitoring his future at Inter.

The 25-year-old has scored nine goals in 16 league appearances this season, but his WhoScored rating is only 6.98. He hasn’t finished a Serie A campaign with a WhoScored rating below 7.00 since the 2015/16 season.
