Gladbach sign Dortmund attacker

Borussia Mochengladbach have confirmed the signing of Jonas Hofmann from Borussia Dortmund for up to £6m.

Hofmann, 23, has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Andre Schubert’s men committing him to the club until 2020.

The former Germany Under-21 international has spent the last four years with Dortmund and has revealed he turned down other offers to join Gladbach.

“Gladbach’s overall package was the clincher for me in the end,” Hofmann told Gladbach’s official website. “I had a great time in Dortmund, but I’m looking forward to a new challenge. I’m happy to be at a big club like this and will do everything in my power to help the team.

“There were multiple offers, as you might have read about in the media. But the club that I focused on the most and where my gut feeling was, ‘moving there makes sense’, was Borussia Monchengladbach. And I’m happy that the deal has gone through.”

Hofmann struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team player since breaking into the Dortmund first-team in 2012. With competition for places to high for the likes of Adnan Januzaj to get a spot in the starting XI, Hofmann has decided to move on to find playing time.

The novice has only featured in seven league games this season, but still played a direct hand in three goals in that time (1 goal + 2 assists) and he can play on either flanks.
