Leicester star Soyuncu could join Barcelona this summer, says agent
The agent of Leicester defender Caglar Soyuncu has sensationally revealed his client could join Barcelona at the end of the season.
Soyuncu has been a revelation for Leicester this season in just his second campaign for the Premier League outfit.
The Turkey international struggled to make any impact at Leicester last season but has taken his opportunity under Brendan Rodgers since Harry Maguire was sold to Manchester United over the summer.
Rather than re-invest any of the £80m raised from Maguire's departure, Leicester placed their faith in Soyuncu and their decision has paid off massively this season, with the club on the brink of qualifying for next season's Champions League.
Naturally, Soyuncu has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in recent months but the defender's agent, Mustafa Dogru, has hinted at a summer transfer to Barcelona.
"It is possible that Barcelona could sign Caglar this summer, as they wanted to sign him before he moved from Altinordu to Freiburg," he told AS.
"We negotiated with them back then, and they presented an interesting project. But we wanted a situation which guaranteed first team football for Caglar, which is why we chose Freiburg.
"Liverpool are the only Premier League side that could sign him, but PSG could also be an option."
With Samuel Umtiti up for sale, coupled with the fact Gerard Pique turned 33 earlier this year, signing a new centre-back is a priority for Barcelona this summer.
Barcelona need to sell first before they can buy due to their financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak and big money deals for Lautaro Martinez and Neymar are still to be done.
Soyuncu still has three years left to run on his current Leicester deal and the Foxes will demand an enormous fee to sanction his departure at the end of the season.
With transfer valuations tipped to tumble as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it remains to be seen if Barcelona will agree on Leicester's valuation.
The 23-year-old, who has started all but one league game for Leicester this season, is the fourth highest WhoScored rated centre-back (15+ appearances) in the division (7.09 rating)
