Leeds sign Real Madrid goalkeeper

Championship leaders Leeds have announced they have signed Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla on a four-and-a-half-year deal until the summer of 2023.

Despite the fact Leeds are four points clear at the top of the Championship, head coach Marcelo Bielsa made signing a new goalkeeper a priority this month.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell has started 26 of Leeds’ 27 league matches this season but there have been question marks asked of the 22-year-old’s capabilities throughout the campaign.

Leeds have now signed Casilla from Madrid for an undisclosed fee and the experienced 32-year-old is in line to go straight in to the team for Saturday’s match against away to Stoke.

Casilla returned to Madrid in the summer of 2015 but has always only ever been considered a back-up option, a status he even lost this season following the arrival of Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea.

The Spaniard finished his second stint at Madrid with a fairly underwhelming record of just nine clean sheets in 25 league appearances.
