Manchester United target on verge of signing £75,000-a-week deal

Manchester United target Harry Maguire is poised to sign a new £75,000-a-week deal with Leicester as a reward for his performances at the 2018 World Cup, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Maguire was a revelation for England at the World Cup this summer and emerged as a top transfer target for United, who desperately wanted to sign a new centre-back on deadline day.

Leicester successfully fended off interest from Jose Mourinho’s side after slapping a £75m asking price on the 25-year-old’s head and are now in advanced contract talks with the hulking defender.

Maguire still has five years remaining on his existing contract after joining from Hull in a £17m deal 12 months ago, but he is now set for a bumper pay day under the terms in Leicester’s proposed new deal.

The England international was initially ruled out of Leicester’s Premier League opener against United last weekend but managed to come through 90 minutes unscathed in a surprise performance.

Despite Maguire’s immense physical presence, he is still a capable ball-playing centre-back and often carries possession forward for club and country. In fact, only Arthur Masuaku (113) has completed more dribbles than Maguire (80) of all Premier League defenders since August 2016.
