Everton dealt blow in pursuit of Denmark international

Everton have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Jannik Vestergaard after the Denmark international insisted he is happy at Werder Bremen.

Roberto Martinez’s have been linked with a raft of defenders in recent weeks as they look to bolster a backline that has been decimated by injuries this season.

However, Everton may have to look elsewhere after Vestergaard admitted he is in no rush to leave Bremen.

“As usual there is much being said all the way,” the Bremen defender told German newspaper Weser-Kurier. “That is not just the case in terms of my future.

“Still, moving on is actually something I am not thinking about. I am glad to be a player of Werder Bremen.

“I am unable to tell you what will be in a year or so. And I cannot promise that I am going to still play first-team at Werder Bremen in seven years from now. But doing so would be an honour for me.”

Since the start of the season, only two central defenders have won more aerial duels in the Bundesliga than Vestergaard (61).
