Turkish giants confirm interest in Ospina

Besiktas have confirmed they are interested in signing Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina, reports the Daily Mirror.

Ospina, 27, finished last season as Arsenal’s No.1 goalkeeper but has dropped down the pecking order following Petr Cech’s arrival over the summer.

The Colombia international was closely linked with a move to Besiktas before the transfer window shut at the end of August and the Turkish giants are keen to rekindle their interest, particularly after Erkan Zengin’s performance between the sticks in their final Europa League group match last week.

“We are interested in Ospina,” Besiktas’ vice president Ahmet Nur Cebi told the Daily Mirror.

"Him and goalkeepers of his calibre but just because we want him does not mean he will come.

“We have to agree with his club and take his contract into consideration.”

Arsenal side only lost two of the 18 league games in which Ospina started last season, and their defensive record improved dramatically, conceding just 0.65 goals per game with him between the sticks, compared to 1.25 goals per game when he was absent.
