Leicester sack Shakespeare

Leicester have sacked Craig Shakespeare just four months after he was appointed the club’s permanent manager on a three-year deal, reports The Daily Mail.

The Foxes are third from bottom in the Premier League and two points adrift of safety after their 1-1 draw with West Brom on Monday, leaving the club with just one win from their opening eight matches this season.

Shakespeare was made interim manager in the wake of Claudio Ranieri’s dismissal midway through last season and the 53-year-old was handed the full-time job in the summer after steering the club clear of relegation and to a midtable finish.

Leicester have not been helped by a tough run of fixtures in the league this season, which saw them open up with matches against Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool in their first six games.

The former Premier League champions have not made news of Shakespeare’s departure official yet, but it is understood that the search for Shakespeare’s successor will begin immediately, with former England manager Sam Allardyce one of the favourites for the job.

Leicester are on the joint-longest current winless run in the Premier League (six matches).
