Newcastle are believed to have tabled a £21m bid for West Brom striker Saido Berahino, reports Sky Sports.
The Englishman has been strongly linked with a move away from Hawthorns this month having failed to break back into the West Brom squad after a summer of speculation suggesting he wanted a move to Tottenham.
Berahino netted twice in the Baggies' 2-2 draw with Peterborough on Saturday, in what was his first start since the end of October, despite being the club's top league scorer since the beginning of the 2013/14 season with 22 goals.
Newcastle have held a long standing interest in the 22-year-old and are now thought to have made their move in the young frontman with a little over 24 hours of the January transfer window remaining.
The Magpies are expected to confirm the signing of Seydou Doumbia before Monday's deadline and he could be joined by Berahino, which would take Newcastle's spending to north of £50m if they can agree on a fee for the frontman.
