Chelsea ace hopes for Real Madrid move

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has not ruled out returning to Real Madrid for a third stint in the future.

Morata only left Madrid to join Chelsea 12 months ago but has already conceded his first season at Stamford Bridge was a nightmare.

The Spain international contemplated a return to Spain or Italy this summer and has now revealed he has not shut the door on a move back to Madrid.

“Who would not like it?” the London Evening Standard quote Morata as saying when asked whether he’d like to play for Madrid again.

“I am happy at Chelsea but I have many years ahead in my career if God and injuries allow it.

“Mariano said Madrid never close the door and look what happened. You never know.

“I’m in Chelsea, not in a team that are very inferior. It is clear that Madrid are the best in the world and everyone wants to be there but I’m not envious [of Mariano].”

Madrid re-signed Mariano from Lyon in a shock deal at the end of last month and handed the Spaniard Cristiano Ronaldo’s old No.7 shirt.

New Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri wanted to replace Morata with Gonzalo Higuain in the summer but the Argentine opted to join AC Milan.

Morata has started Chelsea’s first four league games but has only returned one goal and is the club’s second lowest (1+ start) WhoScored rated player this season (6.82).
