Chelsea warn Hudson-Odoi about Bayern Munich’s interest
Chelsea have warned Callum Hudson-Odoi he risks even less game time if he forces through a move to Bayern Munich, claims the London Evening Standard.
Hudson-Odoi has entered the final 18 months of his current Chelsea deal and has rejected any offers of a renewal.
Bayern are determined to sign Hudson-Odoi after earmarking the 18-year-old as a long-term replacement for Arjen Robben.
The Bundesliga giants are willing to make Hudson-Odoi one of their most expensive signings of all-time and even award him Robben’s No.10 shirt for next season.
Chelsea have rebuffed as many as four offers from Bayern this month and are determined to secure Hudson-Odoi’s long-term future, reportedly even offering wages of £85,000-a-week.
Maurizio Sarri’s side are trying to convince Hudson-Odoi his future is at Stamford Bridge and that by joining Bayern he risks even less game time.
The teenager winger featured prominently for Chelsea during pre-season and was tipped to enjoy a breakthrough campaign this season.
However, Hudson-Odoi is yet to start a Premier League game and has made just three substitute appearances.
Many questioned whether Jadon Sancho was right to leave Manchester City to join Borussia Dortmund 18 months ago but the teenager has been a revelation in Germany.
Sancho is now one of the first names on the teamsheet for Dortmund and has even forced his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad this season.
Sancho’s stunning rise to prominence convinced Dortmund to sell Christian Pulisic, who will ironically join Chelsea in the summer after a £58m deal was agreed at the start of the month.
Hudson-Odoi may naturally look at Sancho’s decision as part of his reasoning behind wanting to join Bayern, which would counter Chelsea’s message to the teenager.
Of players to have made at least three appearances in the Europa League this season, only Alen Halilovic (6.1) is completing more dribbles per 90 than Hudson-Odoi (5.8).
