Valencia have announced they have signed Denis Cheryshev from Spanish rivals Villarreal on a season-long loan deal.
Cheryshev was a revelation for Russia at the 2018 World Cup and has now secured a move back to Valencia.
The 27-year-old spent the second half of the 2015/16 season on loan at Valencia before leaving Real Madrid to join Villarreal on a permanent deal later that year.
Cheryshev has struggled to settle at one club during his entire career and his move to Valencia marks the fourth loan spell on his career in a five-year period.
Valencia have been looking to sign a new left-sided midfielder for most of the summer but Cheryshev’s arrival raises doubts over a deal for Goncalo Guedes.
The Paris Saint-Germain outcast was a revelation for Los Che last term and is desperate to secure a permanent move to the Mestalla this summer.
Valencia were thought to be close to signing the Portugal international in a deal worth in the region of €45m, but that is now unclear.
Marcelino’s side could still be pursuing Guedes and have signed Cheryshev as insurance just in case they are unable to reach an agreement with PSG.
Only Harry Kane (6) scored more goals than Cheryshev (4) at the 2018 World Cup.
