Southampton confirm arrival of Mohamed Salisu

Southampton have announced the signing of Real Valladolid centre-back Mohamed Salisu on a four-year deal running until the summer of 2024.

Salisu has spent the last fortnight in England after Southampton matched the defender's £10.9m release clause last month.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's side had to wait for Salisu to complete his 14-day period of self-isolation before they could finalise his transfer.

Salisu is the second defensive recruit in as many days after Southampton confirmed Kyle Walker-Peters' arrival from Tottenham on a permanent basis on Tuesday.

Southampton also confirmed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's departure to Tottenham in a week of sweeping change at Saint Mary's.

Salisu only has one season of top-flight experience in one of Europe's top five leagues under his belt but did enough for Valladolid last season to capture Southampton's attention.

The 21-year-old made 31 league appearances for Valladolid last season, as they secured a 13th-place finish in LaLiga.

In fact, Valladolid conceded fewer goals (43) than half of the teams inside the top 10 and Salisu played a major role at the back.
