Crystal Palace readying second offer for Arsenal defender
Crystal Palace are preparing a second bid for Arsenal defender Calum Chambers after seeing their initial £16m offer for the Gunners youngster rejected, reports ESPN.
Chambers spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough and was one of only a handful of players to come away with any credit after a disappointing campaign for Boro.
The Eagles have identified Chambers as one of their top defensive targets this summer, though Arsenal are asking for £20m for the former Southampton defender.
Palace face competition from a number of potential Premier League suitors for the 22-year-old, but are confident they can lure Chambers to Selhurst Park this summer.
Chambers made just one Premier League start for the Gunners last season, that coming in an opening weekend 4-3 home defeat to Liverpool.
He featured 24 times for Middlesbrough and new Palace head coach Frank de Boer has identified the youngster as a possible signing as he looks to improve the club’s defence.
The south London side have already secured the services of Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan from Chelsea, while Palace are also closing in on the signing of Jairo Riedewald from Ajax.
