Inter set January date to extend contract of star man

Inter want to extend Mauro Icardi’s contract and increase his release clause, reports Gazzetta dello Sport, via Football Italia. 

Icardi only signed a new five-year deal with a €110m (£97.5m) release clause in October 2016 but Inter want to reward their captain with new terms following his breathtaking start to the season. 

The 24-year-old has already been linked with a move to Real Madrid at the end of the season and Inter are determined to keep the Argentina international. 

Luciano Spalletti’s side are concerned his current release clause is no longer an accurate reflection of his current worth in modern football and want to increase it to €130m (£115.3m). 

Inter also intend to have Icardi sign a two-year extension to keep him until 2023 and plan to sit down with the striker’s representatives in January to thrash out terms to a new deal. 

Icardi is currently scoring at a phenomenal rate of a goal every game in Serie A this season (17 in 17), while only Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani (18) has netted more in Europe’s top five leagues.
