Rashford renaissance continues as Man Utd star makes Premier League team of the week
He may have been linked with a move away from Manchester United over the summer, but Marcus Rashford has looked back to his best in recent weeks, and he features in the Premier League team of the week after his man of the match display against Arsenal on Sunday. Rivals Manchester City and Chelsea are also represented, as are Everton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Brighton
Jordan Pickford (Everton) - 8.79
Everton were second best for much of the Merseyside Derby and largely had Jordan Pickford to thank for securing a result on home turf. The England number one made eight saves in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool to land the WhoScored man of the match award with a rating of 8.79.
Kieran Trippier (Newcastle) - 8.18
Newcastle may have been held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace at the weekend, yet Kieran Trippier was a creative force to be reckoned with at St. James' Park. He made six key passes from right-back, an impressive return for the England international, and was defensively sound as he made two tackles and two interceptions to secure a spot in the side with a WhoScored rating of 8.18.
Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace) - 8.18
Remaining at St. James' Park, Joachim Andersen is the first of two Crystal Palace representatives to make the XI. The Dane was solid at the heart of the Eagles defence as he made a whopping 18 clearances in the stalemate. In addition, Andersen won four aerial duels, and made three interceptions, to, like Trippier, return a WhoScored rating of 8.18.
While VAR controversey overshadowed Chelsea's 2-1 win over West Ham on Saturday, Thiago Silva put in a superb showing for the Blues at the back in the narrow victory. Silva registered his first assist of the season in the London derby, teeing up Ben Chilwell's equaliser with 15 minutes to go. In addition, the experienced Brazilian made three tackles and two interceptions to join Andersen at the back with a WhoScored rating of 7.68.
Rounding off the defence is Chelsea's second player to make the XI. Ben Chilwell made a superb impact off the bench against West Ham on Saturday, having a direct hand in both Blues goals in their 2-1 win. Chilwell scored to draw Chelsea level and then provided the assist for Kai Havertz late on to return a WhoScored rating of 7.64.
Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) - 7.98
The first of two Brentford players in the XI, Bryan Mbeumo bagged his second league goal of the campaign in their 5-2 win over Leeds on Saturday. The Frenchman hit the back of the net with his only shot on goal, and was unfortunate not to add an assist having created two goalscoring chances. An additional two successful dribbles justifies Mbeumo's inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 7.98.
Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton) - 8.52
While he struggled to secure a regular spot for Brighton last season, Alexis Mac Allister has made a stunning start to the 2022/23 campaign as he features in the middle of the park in the team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 8.52. Mac Allister scored goals number three and four for the campaign in the Seagulls' 5-2 win over Leicester, netting with two of four shots, in a man of the match performance.
Cheick Oumar Doucoure (Crystal Palace) - 8.10
The second Crystal Palace player in the XI joins Mac Allister in the middle of the park. Cheick Oumar Doucoure was superb off the ball against Newcastle as he made five tackles and three interceptions, and he was confident enough to chance his luck on goal as he mustered four shots to return a WhoScored rating of 8.10.
Leandro Trossard (Brighton) - 8.25
Leandro Trossard scored his second league goal of the season in Brighton's 5-2 win over Leicester, finding a way past Danny Ward with his only shot on goal. The Belgian was unfortunate not to add an assist as he created four goalscoring chances, while two tackles and two interceptions helped earn his spot on the left with a WhoScored rating of 8.25.
Ivan Toney became the third player to earn a perfect WhoScored 10 rating in a Premier League match this season as he excelled in Brentford's 5-2 win over Leicester. The Bees hitman bagged a hat-trick on home turf, netting with three of six shots, to cap a stunning display in west London.
Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) - 8.80
Joining Toney on the frontline is Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford. Rashford maintained his impressive record against the Premier League's 'Big Six' with a brace in Sunday's 3-1 win over Arsenal. The 24-year-old netted with both shots, and provided the assist for Antony on his debut, that coming from one of two key passes, to feature with a WhoScored rating of 8.80.
