Still undecided what footballers to add to your portfolio? Football INDEX even provides users with a handy tool to help you make informed decisions on trending players, located at the top right hand side of the home page. Share prices can also increase based on the media attention a player receives on any given day of trading.
Now the 2018 World Cup is underway, we are going to highlight five players you should consider for your Football INDEX portfolios 24 hours before their matches. Here are our three tips for Friday’s group games:
1. RENATO AUGUSTO (BRAZIL VS COSTA RICA)
After making an underwhelming start to the 2018 World Cup, drawing 1-1 with Switzerland, Brazil head coach Tite may consider making changes when his side face Costa Rica on Friday.
Neymar is an injury concern for the South American side and that could mean one enforced change to the starting XI, but Tite may also consider Paulinho’s role in midfield.
Renato Augusto was expected to start in Brazil’s three-man midfield but Tite has instead turned to Philippe Coutinho as a third midfielder after his success in that position for Liverpool and Barcelona last season.
Coutinho will move into the front three if Neymar fails to prove his fitness in time but Augusto could slot into midfield anyway, replacing Paulinho, who struggled to make any impact against Switzerland.
Augusto was a regular for Brazil during qualification and it would not be a risk fielding the 30-year-old against Costa Rica.
In fact, only Oscar (8.43) and Hulk (8.29) have secured a higher WhoScored rating than Augusto (8.15) in the Chinese Super League this season.
His Football INDEX share price is only £0.63 and he could prove a real bargain for your portfolios. Even if he does not start, he will be one of the first players off the bench for Brazil.
2. ALFRED FINNBOGASON (ICELAND VS NIGERIA)
Iceland’s first ever World Cup game culminated in a hugely impressive 1-1 draw with Argentina and now the European minnows are dreaming of another successful major tournament campaign.
Alfred Finnbogason scored Iceland’s first ever World Cup finals goal and the Augsburg striker could prove a bargain pick-up for your Football INDEX portfolios.
Nigeria were the neutrals favourites heading into the tournament but they have failed to live up to the high standards their World Cup kit set.
The Super Eagles are winless in five matches and do not look good enough to trouble any teams in Russia.
Finnbogason, who has scored in his last three matches for Iceland, will cause Nigeria a lot of problems with his aerial threat and his Football INDEX share price is only £0.90.
3. XHERDAN SHAQIRI (SWIZTERLAND VS SERBIA)
Many expected Brazil to steam through Switzerland in the opening round of group games but the European side battled well to a 1-1 draw.
Xherdan Shaqiri offered little defensive protection to veteran defender Stephan Lichtsteiner against the South American giants but did provide the only bit of quality in attack.
It was from Shaqiri’s pin-point corner that Switzerland scored their equaliser against Brazil and the Stoke ace will be their creative spark when they face Serbia on Friday.
Serbia are tipped by many to be dark horses at the 2018 World Cup and it will be another difficult outing for Switzerland.
Shaqiri will leave Stoke this summer after their relegation from the Premier League and there is no better shop window than the World Cup.
As a result, it’s not only worth adding shares of Shaqiri to your Football INDEX portfolio for Friday’s match, but also with an eye on the future. His share price is only £1.65.
