Under fire Man Utd pair make Champions League Team of the Week

 

 

Manchester United duo Andre Onana and Harry Maguire star in the Champions League team of the round for matchday three. Elsewhere, there are also representatives from FC Porto, Napoli, RB Leipzig, Barcelona, RB Salzburg and PSG.

 

Andre Onana (Manchester United) - 8.31 

 

Summer signing Andre Onana silenced the doubters with a match-winning 96th minute penalty save against FC Copenhagen on Tuesday evening. The Cameroon international made a total of four saves on his way to a WhoScored rating of 8.31 and the Player of the Match award at Old Trafford. 

 

Joao Mario (FC Porto) - 7.48

 

Portuguese right-back Joao Mario played a vital role in his side’s 4-1 victory away to Royal Antwerp on Wednesday night, providing the assist for Stephen Eustaqio early in the second half while also completing four successful dribbles and making one key pass to return a WhoScored rating of 7.48. 

 

Harry Maguire (Manchester United) - 7.61 

 

England defender Harry Maguire’s resurgence in the heart of Manchester United’s backline continued on Tuesday evening, when the 30-year-old headed home a crucial second half goal which would eventually seal all three points. Natan (Napoli) - 7.75 

 

22-year-old Brazilian defender Natan partners Maguire in defence after an impressive performance in Napoli’s 1-0 win over Union Berlin on Tuesday. David Raum (RB Leipzig) - 8.49 

 

German full-back David Raum came up with a goal and an assist in RB Leipzig’s 3-1 victory over FK Crvena Zvezda on Wednesday. The 25-year-old also made a total of six key passes and six accurate crosses, to land a WhoScored rating of 8.49, his highest in any competition so far this season. 

 

Fermin Lopez (Barcelona) - 8.49 

 

20-year-old Barcelona star Fermin Lopez shone on his first Champions League start, doubling the home side’s lead against Shakhtar Donetsk late on in the second half with a stunning strike. Lopez also provided three key passes, completed three successful dribbles and maintained a pass success rate of 86.7%, to return a WhoScored rating of 8.49.

Despite falling to defeat at the San Siro, RB Salzburg will be encouraged by their performance, and especially that of 19-year-old Oscar Gloukh, who brought the away side level early jn the second half with an exceptional effort. Gloukh also registered two key passes and five successful dribbles against the Serie A leaders, to earn a WhoScored rating of 8.15. 

 

Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig) - 8.48 

 

PSG loanee Xavi Simons continues to sparkle in his spell at RB Leipzig, and opened his Champions League scoring account for the season at home to FK Crvena Zvezda on Wednesday evening. The Netherlands international also provided three key passes and was fouled three times, to earn a WhoScored rating of 8.48. 

 

Evanilson (FC Porto) - 9.45 

 

The Champions League player of the week for matchday three is FC Porto’s Evanilson, who scored three of his side’s four goals away to Royal Antwerp, despite playing only 46 minutes. The 24-year-old remarkably found the net with each of his three shots in Belgium, and lands a WhoScored rating of 9.45. 

 

Mehdi Taremi (FC Porto) - 9.09 

 

Joining the Brazilian in this week’s front three is Porto teammate Mehdi Taremi, who provided the assist for two of Evanilson’s three goals. Taremi also registered four key passes, two successful dribbles and made three tackles, to return a WhoScored rating of 9.09. 


Kylian Mbappe (PSG) - 8.53 

 

PSG attacker Kylian Mbappe rounds off this week’s Champions League best XI, with a WhoScored rating of 8.53. The Frenchman netted his second European goal of the season to give the home side the lead against AC Milan at the Parc des Princes, while also making two key passes and completing three successful dribbles.
