Top transfer roundup - January 27th: Arsenal and United eye wide pair

With the transfer deadline on Thursday drawing closer, the gossip columns are rife with rumours this Sunday as teams look to make last minute changes ahead of the remainder of the campaign.

In our daily transfer blog we round up today’s top stories, starting with Chelsea, where there is good and bad news for Blues fans.

Hudson-Odoi aiming to force move amid further Bundesliga interest

Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi has reportedly handed in a transfer request having had his head turned by Bayern Munich (Daily Mail).

The teenager is now reportedly subject of interest from fellow Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, who are only willing to offer half of what Bayern would, but with a clause ensuring Chelsea have a buy-back option for the winger.

One to stay and one to go from Chelsea defence

David Luiz is set to sign a one-year extension to his Chelsea contract, which expires at the end of the season, but there is no such offer on the table for Gary Cahill.

The Blues skipper is now being linked with a reunion with Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace in a move that would allow Scott Dann to join Fulham.

Martins agrees loan move to Monaco

Portugal international Gelson Martins is the latest player to jump on board in bid to save the sinking ship that is Monaco, putting an end to a torrid time at Atletico Madrid.

The 23-year-old has signed for the Ligue 1 strugglers on loan until the end of the season having started just one of eight league appearances since making a free transfer to Atleti last summer.

Arsenal given green light for Perisic loan move

With no funds available for permanent transfers this month, Arsenal are on the lookout for loan deals and have been encouraged in their pursuit of Inter’s Ivan Perisic (The Sun).

The Croatian had been a target of Manchester United but his form this season has made him dispensable to the Milan giants, who are reportedly willing to sanction a loan provided a fee is agreed for a permanent deal come the end of the campaign.

Manchester United bid to beat increased competition to Bergwijn

In an attempt to remain at the front of the queue for PSV star Steven Bergwijn, Manchester United have asked the Dutch champions to keep them informed should the youngster become available (The Mirror).

The 21-year-old has been linked to both Liverpool and Inter but with Bayern Munich believed to have entered the race, competition for his signature is hotting up, with the Netherlands international having scored nine and assisted another nine league goals this season.

Red Devils prepared to offload captain on a free

Elsewhere at United, Antonio Valencia has reportedly been made available for a loan deal that would see any suitors take up the remainder of his contract (The Sun).

The Ecuadorian’s current deal expires in the summer and he isn’t in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first team plans, so the club are keen to alleviate his wages by sanctioning a free transfer, with Newcastle and Fulham both interested.

Magpies circling Monaco once more after Lukaku deal falls through

Newcastle have reignited their interest in left-back Antonio Barreca, who only signed for Monaco in the summer from Torino (Daily Mail).

However, having seen their move for Jordan Lukaku collapse on medical grounds, their interest in a player that has been injured for the best part of three months seems… questionable.

Southampton line up Soares replacement from north of the border

Having seen Cedric Soares leave the club for Inter, Southampton’s search for a new right-back has taken them to Scotland, with Rangers’ James Tavernier identified as a replacement (The Express).

The 27-year-old was named as captain of the Scottish Premiership outfit by Steven Gerrard, who would be loathed to losing such a key player, but a price of £8m could force the club’s hand.

Arnautovic signs contract extension to end transfer talk

West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic has agreed new terms at the club having been heavily linked with a move to China this month.

The Austrian will remain in London for the remainder of the season at the very least, though it wasn’t announced how long his new deal would last, with his previous contract expiring in 2022.
